FAQ

Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions and other things you may be wondering about Möller’s and our products

Is it dangerous to take more than the recommended daily dose?

You should always follow the dosage recommendations on the product, unless otherwise agreed with your doctor. You should be especially careful not to take too much of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E. If you ingest more than the recommended dose on infrequent occasions, it should not be dangerous. Any negative effects of overdosing will only become apparent after repeated overdosing over a long period.

What is the difference between liquid cod liver oil and omega 3 capsules?

The main difference between liquid cod liver oil and omega 3 capsules is that while cod liver oil is made from fresh livers from cod, the oil used in most omega 3 capsules is made by pressing the oil from whole cold water oily fish such as anchovies and sardines. The recommended daily dose of cod liver oil (5 ml) contains more oil that it is possible to get into 2 capsules. To be able to get about the same amount of omega 3 into 2 capsules, the oil in the capsules is concentrated. Another difference is that the natural vitamins A and D are found in cod liver oil, while it must be added to oil from fish. Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are found in both types and that is most important. Which is best depends more on the quality of the cod liver oil and the fish oil in capsule, Three simple rules for checking if your product is of good quality can be found under “Omega 3 Guide”.

Can you be sure that Möller’s products are pure and free of toxins and other environmental contaminants?

Yes, we guarantee that all of our products are clean and of the best quality. Our products are completely safe for both children and adults. We take every precaution to avoid undesirable material, which can be found in fish, finding its way into our products. All of our oil is cleaned thoroughly at each step and checked up to 8 times during the process. In fact, Möller’s own guidelines for our products' cleanliness are much stricter than the authorities’ requirements. By using raw materials from clean oceans we can avoid undesirable materials.

Can pregnant and breastfeeding women use Möller’s products?

It is especially important that this group receive a supplement of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin D found in cod liver oil and other Möller’s products. Health authorities recommend cod liver oil for pregnant women to ensure sufficient levels of vitamin D and omega 3. Vitamin D is vital for the uptake of calcium which helps the development of the skeleton in embryos. Möller’s Cod Liver Oil is also rich in omega 3 fatty acids DHA which helps develop the brain, nervous system and sight functions.

Can small children take capsules?

It is difficult to determine at which age a child may take capsules. It varies from child to child and is dependent on the size of the capsule. We generally do not recommend capsules for children under 10 years because of the danger of choking on the capsule

How to distinguish between "good" quality and "bad" quality omega 3 products?

None of our products contain gluten or soy.

Can people allergic to fish/shell fish use Möller’s products?

Fish oil capsules consist of pure oil from fish muscle, and cod liver oil consists of pure fat from cod livers. Fish allergies are due to a person reacting to a protein (allergen) in the fish muscle. Today’s analysis methods have been unable to uncover remnants of protein in fish oil/cod liver oil, and we believe it is not likely that the product will trigger an allergic reaction. If you are hyper allergic to fish, you should consult your doctor.

Yes. The essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, which are the main ingredients in Möller’s products, are among the best documented nutrients in the world today.

As a rule, this is a tablespoon, but it might vary slightly due to the size of the spoon.

What is the difference between Möller’s Cod Liver Oil and Möller’s Extra (liquid)?

The difference is that Möller’s Extra contains approx. 40% more omega 3 per daily dose than Möller’s Cod Liver Oil. This is because we have enriched the product with extra omega 3, which makes it our most exclusive cod liver oil.

How long can a bottle of cod liver oil be open before it begins to oxidize (go rancid)?

Möller’s Cod Liver Oil is a pure natural product without any form of preservative. An opened bottle should be kept for a maximum of three months in the refrigerator before it should be replaced. This is due to exposure to oxygen from light and air every time the bottle is opened. Hence, it is important to put the screw-cap on directly after consumption to prevent exposing the oil to oxidation.

How do you remove cod liver oil stains from textiles?

Try a little washing powder (fat-soluble) directly on the stain and allow to work for approx. 30 minutes. Rinse the textile well and wash in normal manner. If possible, hang the textile out to air.

Can infants take cod liver oil with lemon or tutti frutti taste?

Yes they can in principle. The flavouring agent which gives the taste has not caused allergic reactions. Currently, it is not infants but adults who might have a disliking to the taste of cod liver oil. It might be wise to start giving your child cod liver oil with natural taste, and wait with the flavoured products until the child is older and request it itself.

Is there any way to prevent fishy repeat (reflux) of cod liver oil or fish oil?

Reflux (fish repeat) from fish oil is a common problem and often the main barrier to taking omega 3. If you suffer from reflux, we recommend you try our new product, Möller’s Omega 3 Anti-reflux. Möller’s Omega 3 Anti-reflux gives you 1 g of omega 3, while guaranteeing no reflux. This is because the capsule is covered with a layer that prevents it to dissolve in the stomach. Instead the capsule dissolves in the intestine and prevents reflux of the fish oil.
